Day 2

*Big* sleep last night. Dragged ourselves drowsily out of bed at 10 am (felt like 3 am) and had dessert for breakfast at the ‘element fresh’ downstairs (nice coffee). Found a Japanese supermarket – inadvertently, but it seems to be the closest – to stock up on fruit and milk and what have you. Could not bring myself to pay £8 for teabags or £20 for wine. Yet. Very tiny bananas.

Back to the flat for bickering, reading, finishing the unpacking. Cameron did a spot of work. Maggie lay about feeling full of cold and sorry for herself.

Out for a walk to the Bund. About half a hour but it was a relatively cool 32 degrees today – much cooler than yesterday (yesterday, when we eventually had woken up and mostly unpacked, we walked about 10 minutes to the people’s square. Saw sparrows, pigeons, heard cicadas). It is properly Asia here. Found Costa at the Bund (Mum would be proud) and Cameron found a cash point. A good job because the (Japanese! It just seems easy right now.) restaurant we had dinner in did not take a card.

Came out of the restaurant into a massive storm of rain. Nice, warm rain but I’d have stayed dryer if I had stepped into the shower. So delighted I wore a white dress.
